75 Students Supported!

November 2025

As Term One of the 2025–2026 academic year begins, we are delighted to welcome 48 new students to our scholarship programme — increasing the total number of students we support to 75.

Our scholarships go far beyond covering school fees. Every student receives the essentials they need to thrive: daily meals during term time, holiday tutoring, and small but significant items such as torches for studying at night.

Here come the girls!

For the first time ever, we have welcomed an equal number of boys and girls into the programme.

Historically, most scholarship recipients were boys — largely because we focused on one school, Mbabzi Primary, where boys made up around 70% of those passing their national exams.

This year, we made a commitment to gender balance. To achieve this, we expanded our selection beyond Mbabzi to the entire Njewa region. Even though girls’ pass rates remain lower overall, reaching 12 schools allowed us to identify a talented boy and girl from each — ensuring girls with high potential are not left behind.

Supporting those with the most potential but least opportunity

This year’s scholarship selection was based on a combination of academic achievement and personal circumstances.

From each school, we identified the top performing boy and girl, based on the Standard 8 national exam results, then conducted Scholarship Suitability Interviews to understand family income, circumstances, and need.

This approach ensures scholarships reach young people with exceptional potential who would otherwise miss out on secondary education.

Expanding our partnership with Rugby 4 Education

We are proud to deepen our partnership with Rugby 4 Education (R4E) — an organisation that helps young people build confidence, self-esteem, leadership, and fitness through rugby.

Just as importantly, R4E provides both boys and girls with a positive purpose and safe environment during after-school hours.

This year, we are delighted to fund the education of 20 students from R4E. We have seen first hand the discipline, determination, and joy that R4E fosters, and we’re excited to help these young people carry those strengths into the classroom.

Join us in supporting more students

If you’ve been inspired by our support of 75 students, you can help us reach even more young people with the education they deserve.

If you would like to contribute to our scholarship programme, you can make a donation here.

Every contribution — big or small — helps provide essentials like meals, tutoring, school supplies, and personal items. Together, we can open the door to secondary education for even more Malawians and pull them out of poverty for good.
