Unlocking Potential Through Secondary Education

In many parts of the world, secondary education is a right. In Malawi, it's a luxury. Families are required to pay for their children to attend secondary school — a cost most simply can’t afford. As a result, fewer than 15% of young Malawians complete secondary education. For girls, this figure is halved.

We’re changing that.

We provide students with everything they need to succeed.

Our scholarships go far beyond school fees. We support each student with the essentials they need to succeed:

  • Textbooks

  • Stationery

  • Uniform

  • School bags

  • Exam fees

  • Food (maize, rice, cooking oil, salt, sugar)

  • Tutoring during the holidays.

  • For students who live far from school, we provide safe accommodation and daily meals.

  • For girls, we supply sanitary products and access to sexual health education and support.

This holistic approach gives every student the tools they need to thrive — in school and in life.

Because education does more than open doors. It transforms lives. It lifts individuals, families, and entire communities out of poverty — creating lasting change, one student at a time.

Who do we support?

Those with the Most Potential but Least Opportunity

We support talented young people who have shown real academic promise but face extreme financial hardship. Each year, we begin by reviewing the top results from Malawi’s National Standard 8 Exams — the final year of primary school. From there, we conduct Suitability Assessments, meeting parents or guardians to understand their circumstances.
We look at factors such as:

  • Household income and family size

  • How many siblings are able to attend school

  • Any major disruptions such as the loss of a breadwinner or failed crops

This process ensures that our scholarships go to students who need them most — those with the ability to succeed, but without the means to continue their education.

Living on Less Than $2 a Day

For most of our students, their families live on the international poverty line of less than $2 a day. These are families who must make impossible choices — between feeding their children or educating them. No parent should ever have to make that choice. By funding their education, we remove the financial barrier that keeps so many bright students out of school.

Equal Opportunities for Girls and Boys

Historically, boys were more likely to achieve the top exam results and therefore receive scholarships. Today, we are committed to supporting an equal number of girls and boys — ensuring that every student, regardless of gender, has the same opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

Beyond the Classroom: Rugby 4 Education

We’re proud to support students who take part in the Rugby 4 Education programme — a partnership that uses sport to develop confidence, teamwork, and discipline. Through rugby, boys and girls build fitness and resilience, while staying engaged in positive activities outside school hours.
